Mass Spectrometry

Our Mass Spectrometry Facility maintains and operates the serveral high-performance mass spectrometers. We offer several services for the identification and characterization of proteins.

In addition to the classical Edman degradation, which is still available, but requires relatively large amounts of pure sample, modern mass spectrometric techniques are applied.

For protein identification purpuses, peptide mass fingerprints are aquired by MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry. For de novo sequencing of peptides, the more demanding and time consuming tandem mass spectrometry on an ESI-QTOF instrument can be applied.

Charges (including tryptic digest, sample preparation and data evaluation) on request. The analysis of complex mixtures and the relative quantification of their components can be done by nanoLC/MS coupling.
